Silhouette decoys – advantages
- Light and compact: A silhouette decoy weighs a fraction of a 3D decoy. You can carry a 12-pack in a rucksack without thinking about it.
- Stackable: Silhouettes stack flat, so you can bring far more decoys on every trip. More decoys means a bigger, more convincing flock.
- Weather resistant: Hard plastic surfaces over a rigid core mean they handle everything from strong sun to hard frost without fading or breaking.
- Good value: You get considerably more decoys for your money than with 3D models.
- Realistic print: Modern printing with a matt finish gives lifelike graphics with no glare.
3D decoys – advantages
- Visible from every angle: A 3D decoy looks the same no matter which direction the bird comes in from.
- Higher level of detail: Full-body decoys can carry more detailed shape and texture.
- Shadow effect: They cast natural shadows, which adds to the realism.
3D decoys – disadvantages
- Heavy and bulky: You bring fewer of them on each trip, which limits how big a flock you can build.
- More expensive: The price per decoy is significantly higher.
- More fragile: Shell decoys can crack under rough handling or in extreme cold.

Silhouette decoys are the smarter option when:
